I don't see the buzz for this

Ok, this review might differ from what you're used to read about Torchlight. I do not see what's so great about this game. Do not get me wrong, the game is in no way bad, it's just not that great.

It is obvious that this game is inspired by Diablo, it's a similar dungeon crawler. You kill mob and you get loot. The graphics are nice, it's packed with action. You get a little pet to help you fight and carry your loot. Sending him to town to sell your stuff is quite nice to help you save time.

Now, the less interesging part, the story is uninspired and there is nothing worth mentionning in it. The quests are really boring and repetitive. All the quests are the same: person A ask you to find a gem in level 3, person B ask you to kill a boss in level 4... and then you repeat, the same person give you the same kind of quest: find a gem or kill a boss. Just having a different person give you a different kind of quest once would have been a little fun.

I enjoyed a little bit this game, but I have no desire to return to it. So, I think that 1200MS Points is too much to ask for this game.

A Blast

I have a lot of fun playing this, if you like lots of loot which a lot of people do this game has them popping out of people like they all are treasure chests. You also have a pet that goes with you where if you get too much junk you can send your pet back to sell for you so you can keep on slaying evil.

The combat is very smooth which keeps you involved and enjoying it.

The biggest complaint is obviously the lack of multiplayer but I don't think that should stop anyone from enjoying this game it is a great hack and slash type game

Owner's reply

Torchlight 2 co-op should be amazing. Hopefully it comes to XBLA eventually.

Solid title. I hope you got this when it went on s

Picked this up on sale a week or so ago.

The good.
-If you liked the Diablo games, you'll like this.
-The art style is quite nice.
-The item drops are quite varied and extensive. Loot!
-Three different characters, each with different skill trees. You can customize your abilities to fit your preference. I did double pistols. :-D
-Avatar awards! :-D

The bad.
-Only 35 levels. If that seems a lot, well, it's not really. You can blow through the game in ~10 hours. Unless you're obsessive like I am.
-You get some frame rate issues when the screen fills up with enemies.
-No coop play. However, you can said gifts to your friends.
-If you've played it on the PC, there's not much difference.

It's a lot of game of for the 400 MSP I paid for it. The standard price of 1200 MSP is a bit too much, though. I'd pay 800 MSP for Torchlight, tops.

A definite must have if you like Dungeon Crawlers...even if you have the PC version (like I do), getting the XBLA is still a must - I like it even more on Xbox.

The only thing keeping this from being a perfect 10 is that it doesn't have co-op.

Torchlight - a nice loot itself!

Honestly I haven't played an RPG for quite a decade. Can't say I'm a fan so. But I took my time for this one.
Torchlight brings good fun for a lot of hours, it feels good to play and is pretty addictive. It's an easy hack&slash concept that works great. The style is not as dark as other dungeon crawlers, it's actually pretty colourfull, but that's one thing I like it for.
And the loot, yeah, well, there's so many stuff to be collected, used, sold or transformed or changed with magic spells ... but find that out yourself. You can level up and customize your Character in a lot of ways, still this is easy to do, thanks to a well concepted menu. The pet you choose in the beginning makes it easy to sell your loot and helps in the fight as well, pets here can learn spells either. Or feed'em some fish and see ... .
Ok the missing Multiplayer is a small minus (Torchlight 2 will have online Coop) but the rest is a real decent loot for 1200 points (15 €). Want some ... get some ... see you in Torchlight. A clear 9 out of 10.

Loot, loot, and more Loot :-)

If you love games that give you loot then you'll love Torchlight. The Xbox 360 version is just as fun and addicting as the PC version with one plus....I much prefer pressing the 'A' repeatedly than going, "click, click, click-click, clickety, click" with my mouse.

Occasionally there is a bit of slowdown when you get into the middle of a big group of enemies. Still it is not enough to drop my score below a 9. If the developer can bring co-op to the 360 version in Torchlight 2 I'm betting it will be a 10.

Hit A to continue.

I love hack and slashes, and this is definitely a game I love.

Most of this game is going to be dungeon crawling, looting, and lots and lots of monsters. The action lulls every few minutes, enough time to pick up everything that's dropped recently, and then goes right back into the action. One thing I was happy about, albeit I'm a huge Diablo fan, were the amount of "named mobs" there were; Sometimes 3-4 in a single room.

The only complaint about this game for me, is that it IS from 2009. Keep this in mind when it comes to game breaking and changing mechanics. It really dosen't have any of those. But it doesn't have a lot of mindless action/rpg fun.

If anything, let this get you ready for Torchlight 2. :)

This Game is a Must have for Dungeon Crawler Fans!

Torchlight is an amazing dungeon crawler game. If you do not have this game for XBLA then you need to get microsoft points and buy it now. In Torchlight you can have pets, a vast variety of weapons and armor to obtain as well as many enemies to destroy. Speaking of destroy, you can choose 3 classes in this game: Destroyer, Alchemist, and Vanquisher. They each have unique abilities that can be used to defeat enemies and obtain loot.

go buy Torchlight since i give it 9/10! =)

Love me some loot

Torchlight is one of the few games that I regularly go back to and play on my PC. I’ve got two characters that I’ve played through the entire story with and have spent a lot of time playing the end game content with both. So, you can say that I was pretty excited for the Xbox Live Arcade version to release. Despite my excitement I was also a little nervous about how it would play with a controller since it was originally designed for the keyboard and mouse. Fortunately, Runic put a lot of effort into adjusting the interface and controls for the Xbox. The changes to the inventory and combat to accommodate a controller work beautifully and I can’t even tell it not originally made with the controller in mind.

Having played through most of the main story on the Xbox Live Arcade version now I think I may even prefer playing it with a controller. Instead of using the mouse for both attacking and moving these are now separated like one would expect on a controller. No more do I accidentally miss clicking on a moving enemy and instead run across the screen. Now I can move around and just hit the X whenever I want to attack. I never really found this frustrating about the PC version but now that I’m playing on a console I can see how much better it is.

The story and combat are still as fun as ever. Crushing tons of enemies and collecting cool new loot is always a plus. The new pet for the Xbox version is a nice addition as are the other new additions of armor sets and quests. I thought I’d miss some of the really nice mods the Torchlight community has made but so far I have not.

If you have not played Torchlight yet the Xbox Live Arcade version is a great way to go, but even for long time Torchlight fans the console version is well worth picking up to play through again.
