Features

Back in 1998, Banjo-Kazooie was the duo's first romp in adventure land. Carrying on the age-old tradition of bear and bird, the team must rescue the soon-to-be monster-ized sister from the ever so ugly but sometimes poetic witch Gruntilda. It's a classic combination for your enjoyment. Now it's brought to you one hundred percent intact in lovingly upgraded gaming form. And because we're really nice, if you have the Banjo-Kazooie® Nuts and Bolts game, the legendary Stop N Swop feature is at last activated. Look out for the hungry clams and dangerous ice cubes.

  • Truly classic gameplay: Banjo-Kazooie was a revelation and revolutionary when it debuted. Now you can playthe original, upgraded for Xbox 360, and discover the beginnings ofbear and bird.
  • Stop N Swop: The feature is now fully implemented, with the ability to unlock new features in Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts.

Still an amazing game years after the original.

I have this game for the N64 and I loved playing it years ago. Trying Banjo-Kazooie on the X360 was simply the same experience. It is as fun as before and it simply is an amazing game. For anyone who played the original, this game is great to return to. For anyone who didn't play the original, what are you doing ? Get this game, it is a great game, without hesitation.

There is simply not much more to tell, the controls are good, the gameplay is good, the game is funny and good. For 1200MSP, it's a correct price. If you happen to see a deal on this game, buy it immediately.

There is a certain amount of nostalgia involved, but still, my re-introduction to Rare's excellent platformer from "back-in-the-day" was a good one.

I could remember lots of little details from my first outing on the N64, but to play it again on the 360 was a great experience. The game has withstood the hand of time quite well, though the camera can sometimes make you scream. The charachters are classic, however, and keep the game very very enjoyable.

It's brilliant - what a shame rare didn't make another game like this for the 360 full release instead of Nuts and Bolts...

This is 3D platforming action at it's best - it gets really hard, mind... the swimming sections are particularly tricky... due to the camera more than anything else. Wonder why they didn't sort that out!?

But despite a couple of camera / control issues, this really is great - buy it!

Good but still rough

This is pretty much the same game most of us grew up playing. I haven't done a thorough comparison, but not much is updated graphically but playing it on an HD monitor versus a regular TV back in the day, of course it's gonna look sharper. The music is still fantastic and the game is still really fun to play despite the often sabotaging efforts of the camera.

Jiggies no longer have to all be collected in one run, which eases the game a bit, but an option to do it the old way woulda been swell. Bottles' puzzles still suck due to horribly ham fisted controls. But otherwise it's worth the money.

I hate to admit it, but I never played Banjo Kazooie before it was released on the XBLA. I'm now very sorry that it took me this long. I sort of scoffed at it and felt it was a kid's game that I wouldn't be interested in. I was wrong. It's very fun incredibly holds up to me, a first time player, in 2009. I understand the graphics are updated from the original release, and it shows. Of course it still looks like an old game, but cleaned up because the 360 doesn't have as many limitations as the n64 did. It is a shame that it's $15, the same price as original Xbox games and a number of new IPs on the XBLA. At $10 I'm sure this would have sold twice as many copies. If it shows up as the deal of the week, you have no reason not to buy it.

Fun and addictive.. for me, a bit nolstagic, as I got this game as a present many, many years ago. Awesome music, great sense of humour, memorable characters, and later on, very, very challenging. Highly recommended to all.

Although it was a little too costly to relive this title, I had some extra points that I received for free, so I took the plunge.

Large game, numerous worlds, wonderful music that gets in your mind, and enjoyable hi-jinx with Grunty, Banjo, and Kazooie!

Good Game Overall

I agree with the feelings that $15 is too much for this title. In general, it may be a fair price, but considering what was done with it and how other XBLA titles have been priced, it just seems a bit much. At the same time, it's longer than most titles on the service and arguably more fulfilling. After all, it was a full-on $50+ console title at one point.

Admittedly, you are getting some upgrades: it latches into the extremely underrated Nuts and Bolts for bonus items; Swap n' Shop actually does something now; slowdown has been SIGNIFICANTLY cleaned up; the HUD elements have all been redrawn; the HD resolution and better anti-aliasing make the N64 original look pretty awful.

I have mixed feelings on the actual gameplay. I think it was overrated at the time and overrated now. In fact, playing it alongside Nuts and Bolts made me happy that Rare went in a different direction.

That's not to say it's bad. It's a good game, but it also becomes somewhat tedious and frustrating. The game's use of a hub world echoes Mario 64, but it's handled clusmily here. Finding new areas feels more like an exercise in frustration more than it feels like a reward for exploration.

The gameplay itself is fun and tight, however. It controls well and Banjo and Kazooie are both capable of quite an array of moves. If you're dying for a platformer on the 360, it's hard to say no to this or Tooie.

An amazing experience

There is no way I can understand how people would balk at $15 for this masterpiece; I never had it for N64, and I'm blown away by every phase of this incredible adventure. To briefly gloat, I got the game for free by pre-ordering Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts (which is fantastic and was only $40 brand new, thank you Microsoft!!!), but now that I've played it, I'd pay the 1200 points at a moment's notice.

The details are so worked on, it's one of Rare's best games ever. The graphics are stylish and colorful, the enemies are hilarious and varied, the dialogue is super funny when coupled with the crazy squeaks and sounds of the characters, and the adventure-action is a wonder to play and behold. You will actually feel butterflies in your stomach when you get to take some of the higher jumps off mountaintops to get those extra pieces. Don't miss out on this one!

The biggest reason to own a N64 (after Blast Corps

Banjo Kazooie is a true classic. This is 3D platforming at its finest. The level integration, the diversity in gameplay, the enemies, the moves, the music, everything about this game is a pure joy.

Everything except the camera. The nostalgia goggles block out how bad the camera was in the older 3D games, especially in the underwater levels. But other than that, these will be some of the best spent points on the XBLA.

Great Game

One of the best platformers available on the 360. Though it may feel a little old if you have never played it before.

A bit expensive also - it should cost 800

If you are into classic platformers, or in love with the classics, you cannot go wrong with this one.

The legendary pair of bird and bear's first adventure has been remastered to fit the HD graphics of the Xbox 360. It retains all of it's great features from its glory days and includes other features that weren't released in the original N64 game. This is a solid game and if you haven't checked it out yet, what are you waiting for!?

Like I'm in Middle School again!

This was one of my favorite games on the N64, so when I got a hold of one of the codes, I had to play it. Honestly, the worst part was that it actually made me wish that Nuts and Bolts was more of a platformer. This game is one of the greatest platformers, and it still holds up today. Now, if rare would give us Banjo-Tootie, and then a proper Banjo-Threeie!

I loved it on the N64

And I love it now! I didn't buy it, but I played it at a friend's house and it was like nostalgia! I kind of wish they had done some more with it so it seems more "fresh" but it still brings back the memories. The only reason I'm not buying it personally is because of the price tag.

Another classic returns!

Thanks Rare for bringing this one back. It was nice to see they they were able to include widescreen support and cross compatability with Nuts and Bolts. Too bad they couldnt upgrade the textures as they still look identical to N64.

Still fun to play. Now bring back Killer Instinct!
