Action Arcade Wrestling is a 2010 love letter to Wrestling games of the early Nineties.
The graphics may be 3D but the action is just as you remember from your 16bit days!
Controls are simple, and have been refined to eliminate a lot of the tedious button mashing from the wrestling games of old. Pounding the buttons has been replaced with a simple QTE and the result is a faster more enjoyable game.
What AAW does take from modern wrestling titles however, is a huge level of customisation and match types. The Create A Wrestler section allows player to create themselves, their friends, or even a number of wrestling superstars from the 80s/90s thanks to some recognisable pieces of clothing. Move lists are also fully customisable so while the game features 8 unique grapplers it takes very little time to have Hulk Hogan et al grappling all over the 360!
11 different match types covering 1 v 1 matches, Tag matches, Cage Matches and Royal Rumble style matches make for a wealth of gameplay options and the amount of content in the game should be applauded.
While there may be a lot for a single player the local co-op allows wrestling fun for up to 4 players, and AAW thrives in this environment.
Taken as a beat em up AAW is difficult to fault, if your a wrestling fan add a 1 to the score above!
AAW is a wrestling fans dream Indie Game. Thousands of potential match ups at your finger tips and only 80points.
