Baku Baku Duckie Hot Spring of Moe Bullet Hell

As much as I would love to make dirty jokes the hot springs can be serious bonding moments. Alisa Sankogushi is about to enjoy a relaxing swim with who I can only assume is her dad Benjamin Basara. I have no idea why she drools at the prospect but I guess it's a cultural thing and maybe Ben works 160 hour weeks so moments like this become so few and far between that well sometimes drool is expected. Anyway predictably things go horribly wrong as Ben is sucked into the Hot Spring by an army of maniacal rubber duckies, monkeys in flying barrels, cannons, and a giant mass of cookies/stones/what the heck is that? Maybe they were better off taking a shower...eww never mind forget I said that.

The concept is that Alisa must rescue father by following after him. Even though she was so looking forward to that swim the water apparently kills her if she touches it. Course this might have something to do with entering hot water slowly and not at over 100 mph. Thankfully she has a bunny that can swing on inexplicable floating objects and will carry her around the play-field and out of the water. The game really doesn't give the player the time to swing around and master that aspect as before long those freaking ducks move in. These guys shoot bullets and while the bunny can absorb them and turn them into fruit, if they reach Alisa however they turn her into something dead.

Thankfully Alisa knows that the evils of the hot springs have a weakness to blasts of cold water so she brought along a squirt gun. Having one of these babies would have made any child the Overlord of Summer but here it's all about blasting away those ducks and whatever the heck else those other things are that want Alisa dead and Ben swimming for eternity. This aspect is pretty simple though it does affect how Alisa controls. Don't expect to pick up those more advanced swinging techniques as while the trailer makes it look easy there is a bit of a curve attached.

Furthermore since this games doesn't really have levels or even an ending it's basically a free pass to steadily ramp up the intensity until the player can't take anymore. Bonus lives are pretty frequent as they're governed by grabbing lots of fruit. The amount required for an extra life constantly grows but it's sort of balanced out by the ever-increasing number of bullets to be absorbed. It's actually quite entertaining and there's always time to practice maneuvering when the early sections are inevitably replayed.

While the game could use leaderboards(the only scores you'll be beating are your own) and an option to quit to the dashboard it's still really quite good. It's got some neat twists on some basic concepts and anyone will have gotten their dollar's worth out of this one. Ultimately though I kind of hope there is in fact an ending because it would be really sad if Alisa never did get to enjoy that swim with Ben. Course this is probably all just a dream and Ben died a long time ago by drowning in a hot spring. Yeah this is a downer moment to end a review on but oh well whatevs.by following after him.
