Great game.

Radiangames Crossfire takes the classic arcade gameplay style of Space Invaders and adds enough new twists to create something unique.
The game consists of controlling a ship/cannon that's located at the bottom of the screen, can move horizontally and fires upwards. There are enemies moving sideways in the center of the playing area, and you must kill them all to progress to the next level. So far, so familiar. However, where this game differs from the old formula is in that with a single press of either trigger or bumper, you can warp to the top of the screen and rain down fire from above. While the ability to switch between either floor or ceiling at any time may sound a bit like a gimmick, the entire game has been designed around this simple mechanic, resulting in a highly enjoyable experience. The enemy types you'll encounter encourage warping back and forth, with some of them firing in just one direction, others switching between the two periodically, some that adjust their shots' orientation depending on your location, and so on. You'll also come across plenty of imaginative combinations of the different types making you reconsider your tactics as you go along. Each downed enemy will drop power orbs that, when collected, serve to fill your Superfire meter. Using this extra weapon will see you firing a more powerful barrage of projectiles, which comes in very handy at times as it's a good way to clear out large numbers of enemies quickly.
There are 50 levels to blast your way through and, with a well balanced difficulty curve, infinite continues, and periodic updates to your ship, you won't find the game becoming impossible. There are plenty of reasons to come back once you're done though, there's 2 player co-op and an unlockable Turbo Mode, as well as the fact that the game is fun enough to want to play it again!

One of the best!

Crossfire is one of those rare games that is fun to play, simple to control, looks great and does something I’ve never seen before. Looking at the screenshots before it released I was thinking it looked like a pretty nice looking Space Invaders style game. However, there is one key game mechanic sets it apart from other games in this genre. You have the ability to jump between the bottom and the top of the screen at any time. Because of this the enemies have various ways of dealing with this. Some enemies will switch back and forth between shooting at the top and bottom. Other only shoot in one direction but can only be killed from one side. A few can be killed from either side but when you kill one the launch a wave attacks at the side you killed them from. So, the game play is strangely familiar in that you’re attacking enemies in a Space Invaders style, but completely different because of the ability to attack from behind.

I love the diversity in the levels and enemies. Radiangames clearly spent time setting up each wave so that there is a strategy that works best for clearing the level cleanly. Fortunately, even if you die you can just continue from the level you are on. If you leave and come back later you don’t have to start at the beginning. Instead you can start at any increment of tenth wave that you already completed. This really helps keep the frustration level down when you get to the harder levels later in the game. For hard core high score focused gamers you can there is high score table that will keep you trying for that perfect run.

Another feature I really enjoy is that each enemy you kill drops a couple ammo pellets for your super fire weapon. The super fire shots are stronger and faster than your normal attack. The ammo for it is limited by the enemies you’ve killed but I find it really helpful for the extra hard levels so clear out a large section at the start with some super fire and then work from there. It keeps me form dying quite so often.

Graphically the game looks great with its bright colorful style. I really don’t have anything to fault in Crossfire. If I was good enough to beat wave 49 that would be great, but I’ll get it in a few more tries. :)
