Twin blades, a repetitive but solid game

Twin blades, with the DLC released, is a game about eliminating zombies to get pass a level. The game is simple and straightforward, you play as a nun moving forward the map and killing zombies. You can upgrade your guns and scythe as you go, but the nun feel a bit lacking in abilities even when fully upgraded. The story mode add more depth to the game, and the boss fights are challenging and interesting, with the last boss a little bit too difficult for me. The story line is decent, but a bit weird in my opinion. The one aspect that stand out the most in this game is the detailed and colorful graphics, it makes you keep coming back to play for more just to look at the graphic. The sounds fit the environment, it is unfortunate that there are not a lot of them.

Pros:
- Colorful and well designed graphic
- Story mode offer length to the gameplay
- Sound is great and fit the atmosphere
- Achievements bring you back to play for more
- Upgradable equipment make game more interesting
- Unique bosses
Cons:
- Too repetitive
- More zombies type would add depth to the gameplay
- Controlling the nun would be more satisfying with more move like dash or block or crouch
- A bit more songs could spice up the experience

Overall, twin blades is a solid indie game, and for the price of 400 Microsoft points, it is a worthy addition to any gamer game library

With the update, Twin Blades stands as a solid ind

Twin Blades is a game revolves on hacking/slashing your way through a wave of zombies for 31 days, after each day, you are allowed to upgrade your gun or scythe or passive skills. The game is basically mindless grinding, killing waves after waves of zombies, very repetitive in my opinion. However, with the update, a story mode is added to the game, reducing some of the repetition by a bit with the nun's new combo and new environment to travel to. The main aspect of the update that help this game get an 8 is the boss fight and the short yet somewhat interesting story. As for the graphic, the art style is well done for both the zombies, the nun and the environments. Sound is repetitve and lackluster. There is also achievement-like award that you can gain for fulfilling certain tasks. Overall, Twin Blades is a somewhat fun game with great graphic with only the one down side as the massive repetition

“Great Beat Em Up Fun, if a little repetitive“

Twin Blades is a bloody little sidescroller that takes place in a zombie wasteland. Your character, a spunky little nun with an oversized blade and arsenal of ammunition, battles through each “Day”, as the zombie horde gets successively stronger and stronger. Before long, the days will rack up, the zombies will have a thick layer of armor, and you’ll be throwing around holy weapons and spinning your blade through thousands of undead.
Twin Blades is a straight-forward beat’em’up, purifying the side-scrolling brawler into as few facets as possible. It’s not difficult to master the gameplay, and simple slashing and jumping can easily see you survive to day 10 and beyond. The game also offers upgrades, where you can trade the brains you have wrenched from zombies in for more health, more damage, new skills, or new guns, opening up new ways to play and more ways to skewer zombies. Unfortunately, I can’t help but think that the game doesn’t take the notion of upgrades far enough: Why can’t I juggle enemies, or throw them, or stun them? Why about a simple “roll” button? What about a combo counter for measuring how awesome I’m doing? While the gameplay might be enjoyable, I can’t help but wish it was fantastic.
Artistically, the game is fluid and seamless: Twin Blades was an iPhone hit, so you can imagine the amount of time that they’ve had to make this game as visually pleasant as possible. The backgrounds are a little boring, if only because the same 3 backgrounds rotate through each “Day,” but a minimal amount of effort is put in to keep the image fresh, like the fog that rolls in through the cemetery stage.
Overall, Twin Blades is a great game. If you like mindless beat’em’ups, you should definitely jump on this one: The current agenda is to release FREE DLC in the coming months, but the trade-off is that the full price of the game will go up. My hat’s off to Press Start Studios – that’s a heckuva way to inspire early adopters. My only wish is that there were more meat on these bones that I keep burning and bashing by the dozens. Perhaps that upcoming DLC will make my zombie-killing a tad more interesting?

Keeps you coming back

I like the combination of the simple mechanics with buying more powerful weapons. Plus the graphics are amazing. With the continue option I'll be coming back to play for 15 or 20 minutes between other stuff all the time.
