Magic Racing GP 2 Hot

Magic Racing GP 2 is a hard game to rate. On the one hand it's mechanics are solid and it's options are deep. On the other, it wasn't that fun. The turn mechanics are tighter than anything I've encountered. This is mostly due to the top down nature of the camera as it renders timing the distance to be a problem.

Their are ways to shift the difficulty and to even adjust the speed of the race to accommodate these issues, but it doesn't fix them. More troublesome yet is the fact that differentiating the different tiny cars in a tight turn leads to a lot of guessing games if you have collision detection turned off.

This isn't to say the game is all faults. It can be adjusted to. It's just extremely difficult. The level of customization of the cars is extremely impressive even to the point of regulating the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) of the vehicle.

The music itself isn't bad, but as soon as you start a game the cars drown out most of the audio.

The game is just hard to control. It has that tight Gran Turismo style of gauging your acceleration in open track with your deceleration in corners. However, Gran Turismo usually gives you a bit of leeway with other cars to bump or extra ground to run across. Most corners in the game are essentially walls. As soon as you get a bit to close, you stop and have to clear yourself.

It's realistic, but when that margin of error is rendered so small on your screen, it's hard to reward them for it. If you can adjust to the game, it will offer you something substantial. If not, you'll leave it in the dust.

What a cracking little game. Superb depth for an over head racing game, you actually have to drive it properly and take the corners with respect. I love the fact that the heandling is quite heavy purposely. This might put a few people off if they are expecting a basic - hold the accelerator down none stop type racer. This is one that you have to actually play correctly, breaking in all th right spots and avoidly contact with sand/scenery etc. I also love that you are penalised for taking short cuts. The added classes of mini karts are a bit naff, and the graphics take a visible nose dive with those, but forget that as they are clearly just an afterthought to an already superbly deep little racer - You can even change the set up for each car, just like a proper formula 1 racer. I just hope that future updates do not dumb down the handling to pander to those that my moan that it is too difficult to control. Superb, best indie game I have played in ages. Trying to beat the ghost cars for each course is insanely addictive. Tons of modes, superb perfectly modelled courses (monaco is spot on) and graphics damn smart. Love it.
