When I was younger I've always wanted to build and fly an R/C Airplane. I used to go to local shows where people would bring out their models and fly them all day. Some people liked to take risk and would do many neat tricks like flying high in the sky only to drop full speed to the ground and pull up just before it hit. Thanks to a nice little XBLIG called R/C Air Sim, I can see what that's like without building and demolishing a real plane.

In Air Sim you can choose between a small, but decent selection of planes; 7 to be exact. Ranging from a basic easy to control plane, to a glider, and even an F-15. There are 4 different control schemes. You can choose to just use the thumbsticks to control the elevator, rudders, throttle, and allerons or use the triggers for the throttle and thumbsticks for everything else. Personally I like the latter method. In terms of gameplay, it's what you'd expect. You stand in one spot in an open field and fly your plane. The field is pretty big but you'll find yourself flying close by to see what you are doing. I tried the aforementioned trick of flying high in the sky and doing a nose dive. It worked out just as I imagined as I pulled up just before hitting the ground. After trying the different planes I experienced multiple crashes. The physics, modeling, crash damage, and controls all feel smooth and what you'd expect in a sim game: it's like flying a real model plane.

At 240 points ($3), the price is a little high for the lack of content. It would be nice if there were some mini games, some co-op, or even music. I recommend playing the trial. For the amount of time you'll be playing the game, the trial should suffice.

Better than the real thing (seen as I crashed my husband's remote control plane after having only one go on it :S)

Realistic movement, excellent controls - great stuff!

Would be nice if there were some mini-games, like popping balloons, or going through hoops... or a tally of stunts for you to perform? But definitely worth a download :)

It is pretty fun crashing the planes.

For future updates, I'd like to see a zoom/pan feature, some different fields & a wider variety of models.

Look elsewhere for your RC Model Flight needs

RC-AirSim is certainly unique on the 360 platform. However, there are many free alternatives available on the PC space that are vastly superior.

Flying Model Simulator (F.M.S.) is available for free, and comes with a variety of model aircraft, including helicopters. FMS has a large fan base, with numerous additional models available for free download, including accurate replicas of real model aircraft, such as the Park Zone Fockewulf and P-51 Mustang aircraft. Flight characteristics are very accurate to real world models in FMS.

There is also a great variety of environments available for FMS to keep things interesting.

It is exacly what it says it is

What can I say? it's doing exactly what it's supposed to, nothing more.
If you have no interest in model planes you will hang on to the game max 20minutes. So there's nothing wrong with the game, it just has a thin target audience.
