Kinetic Kube S is a simple side scroller from the devs over at Suitz Ethics. Kinetic Kube S has several modes, each with special controls and rules, that allow for a quick change if one mode becomes monotonous.
Kinetic mode is your platformer. You control your Kube and a Spaceship that guards the Kube by shooting down enemies or blocking their attacks. Controlling two sprites with one controller is difficult at first but once you pick up on it, it’s not bad. There is also an easier mode where the ship is controlled by the AI. Bars stream past that you must jump on and enemies are coming in all the time. In addition there is a laser bar that comes overhead now and then that will either hurt you, heal you, or destroy all your enemies. I had the most fun on this mode.
In Survival mode there are several obstacles that are randomly introduced like rounds. The object is simple; Survive the round. You control your Kube in a skiff-like ship with lasers, shields, partner respawns, etc.
Bomb mode was the easiest mode. In Bomb mode red and green bombs constantly fall from the sky. You must keep your Kube from getting hit by the red ones and you can refill your health by catching the green ones. With every bomb that hits the ground, your score goes up. There is also a neat “slow motion” feature that allows you to slow down the rate of the falling bombs. You have a limited amount of slow-mo so use it wisely.
Multiplayer mode is local and although I didn’t get a chance to try it with friends, I can see this game being more fun with the more people you have.
The music in the game was done by, The Virtuoso Shakir Cannon. The music that was present I enjoyed, and it kept the pace of the game going. At first I thought that this was supposed to be a platformer/rhythm game mash-up. There just wasn’t enough of it. There was one menu song and one gameplay song from what I could tell. I could of used a lot more of The Virtuoso’s music.
So grab some friends and Kinetic Kube S and go for some of that highscore gaming action!
