Prince of Persia® Classic is a remake of the original 1989 title, often referred to as THE game that kick-started the platforming genre. This new version features updated character designs, animations, visuals, and lighting effects, all transforming the game into a fresh, close to 3-dimensional look. New traps, puzzles, enemies, and achievements add to the excitement. It's time to save the princess from her terrible fate!

  • Updated and enhanced: All the character designs, animations, controls, and visuals have been completely updated to stunning effect.
  • New content: In addition to the graphic refresh, new puzzles, enemies, and even helpful checkpoints further augment the classic experience.
  • Athleticism and swordplay: Run, jump, and climb, showcasing your character's athleticism, and buckle your swash with exciting sword battles.
  • Three game modes: Normal Mode requires you to complete the game as fast as possible, with saves at the end of each level. Time Attack has you starting from the beginning if you fail to save the princess after the allotted sixty minutes. And Survival Mode challenges you to complete the entire game without dying. Good luck.
  • Achievements: Twelve achievements are available, ranging from the simple (finding the sword in the first level) to the truly difficult (finding all the potions in the game, or finishing the game without dying).

The Original PoP!

I'll start off by saying I had very fond memories of PoP. Okay, I WOULD have had fond memories if I could ever get past the first level back in the day. Copy protection at that time meant that in order to move between letters you had to "prove" you bought / owned the game by playing a mini game where you had to find the -th letter on the -th page in the -th paragraph. It's really a blast to play through the whole thing.

Everything looks pretty, and that's the first thing that stands out. Like his counterpart in the Sands of Time trilogy, the eponymous Prince moves very fluidly. He makes wall kicks look easy, and it's fun to just run through a level and see how effortlessly he leaps and hops around.

Gameplay wise, it seems one HELLUVA lot easier to move than it was back on the black and white Mac where I was introduced to this game. It makes the game more accessible and less frustrating, though by no means is it easy to complete. The two button sword fighting is fun, though by the end it's hard to deny that it gets a tad stale.

In short, try the demo. If you like it, it only gets better as the puzzles and platforming elements get more complex and more rewarding to pull off.

Impressive classic update

Prince of Persia Classic is a rebuild of the original PC title with a graphics overhaul. I say rebuild because the game plays exactly like the original due to a careful conversion of the controls from the original digital keys onto the analog stick. The graphics have been overhauled and are very well done. The addition of background layering adds a nice feel of momentum which aides in timing the characters movements.

The game play of Prince of Persia has seemed to always been a love it or hate it situation. Precision timing has always been an aspect of PoP, but this update alleviates this by adding a fully functional save feature as well as checkpoints within levels.

I highly suggest this classic update, but it isn’t for everyone and so a few runs through the trial are in order before a purchase.

It's an okay game as long has you go in by not judging it on the new Prince of Persia titles other wise you'll be disappointed. But the game is pretty fun and challenging a lot of the time but it's well worth the newly updated graphics. If you've never played the game back in the day at least try the trial, who knows you may actually like it and get the real thing!

I used to play this game way back in the computer labs in school, so I was jazzed to see it hit the Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Prince of Persia has a very unique control scheme -- it's a lot slower than most sidescrolling adventures. While it's an old game, this control scheme feels very refreshing and it works well on the Xbox 360 controller.

The updated graphics are very pretty.

If you've never played this franchise in its early days, you might want to check it out.

I tried the demo and it was how I remember from playing on the PC version as a kid. If you played Prince of Persia when it was released originally then all of the original goodness is here with some enhanced graphical elements and animations. Personally, I was never a big fan of Prince of Persia. I always found the controls to touchy. I'd hit the jump button with my timing off my half a second and end up dead. Having to retrace a big section of the level was never fun for me. If you've never tried the original Price of Persia I'd recommend giving the trail a run through. Even though it is not one of my favorite games a lot of people love it and now is your chance to find out why. It is a classic and I'm sure a lot of people will be glad to have it. If you have fond memories of playing Prince of Persia let me know what you think of the Xbox Live Arcade version.
