Choplifter HD

Choplifter HD is a fun side-scrolling shooter that does a good job of taking up your time. The beginning missions teach you how to use the controls but don’t make it feel like you’re going through a tutorial. A lot of games that offer tutorials make it seem more like a chore but this game makes you feel like you actually accomplished something.

Choplifter HD doesn’t even start out as a simple “get from point A to point B” game. From the beginning, you’re expected to gun down enemies while finding bonuses. It definitely makes you watch your surroundings.

The controls in this game are pretty tight and may even be challenging to beginners of the genre. At first, I was a bit overwhelmed by the button combos I had to utilize at the start of the game. The more you though, the better you become at controlling your chopper.

The graphics aren’t too bad either. I was shocked at how well the 3D background (and foreground) looked while playing the game. As far as Indie Games go, the devs for this title did a really good job in putting the scenery together.

Gameplay is pretty addictive. As you go through each mission you not only have to defend your chopper from various enemies shooting at you from all directions, but you also have to save civilians and transport them out of the warzone.

Sometimes you have to make more than one trip to save all the civilians. On top of that, you also need to keep your eyes open for news reporters in the area and save them for bonus points.

If you’re a fan of side-scrolling shooters I would suggest picking this title up. Even if you’re not a fan of the genre I would still give it a try.
