Hard Corps: Uprising Screen

I got some hands on time with Hard Corps: Uprising at E3 2010 this week. They are looking at a release in Winter 2010.  The price has not been announced but I was told it would be "reasonable".  The game plays just like I remember playing Contra, but the graphics have a Guilty Gear feel to them.  The sprites themselves were all hand drawn, and you can tell they took their time because the game looks great.  The game play was smooth and a lot of fun to play co-op on the same screen.  The whole game supports 2 player co-op and I would highly recommend playing it with a friend because it was a lot more fun that way than when I was going solo.  Maybe that is because I am not that good though.

I also was able to get confirmation that the are 2 unlockable characters in the game and that they do plan to release downloadable content.  They would not give me any specifics on what that will be though.  The new Rising mode is almost like playing a Contra RPG.  As you progress through the game you earn points that you then use to permanently upgrade your character and weapons.  This is already the type of game that can be played over and over, and the Rising mode only looks to add even more replay value.

I was pleasantly surprised with how good the game felt while I was playing it since it is not due out for somewhere around 6 months.  They could have told me it was coming out next week and I would have believed it was ready. From everything I saw this "sequel" to Contra will be what fans have been dreaming of.
